“I grew up the youngest of three boys with loving and supportive parents. My mom was a nurse and my father was a pilot. Needless to say all the boys wanted to fly like their dad. I earned my glider
pilot’s wings at 16 and had my private pilot’s license with endorsements for floats before my 18th birthday. Flying taught me to believe in dreams. I credit my parents with recognizing my early interest in art and introducing me to artist Robert
Genn.
This meeting helped change the course of my life. From that moment on I began charting a path that has led to my present day success. It is much more than a monetary success; it is the awareness that one is part of a tradition reaching
back beyond the written record. Image making is an expression of our shared desire to understand the meaning of existence.
In painting, as in life, my approach is built upon a foundation of creativity, imagination, and the appeal of the
mysterious. I derive enormous pleasure from the exploration of colour, pattern and design. While the mode might be loosely defined as representational, the method is highly intuitive. This allows plenty of room for raw energy, traces of process and
liberal happenstance. Occasionally, I am compelled to ‘work-in’ areas of intense and often ambiguous detail. All the while attempting to foster an energy of involvement. Creating works of art is about occupying the fulcrum between the absolute unknown
and the moment of knowing. A wonderful place to be.”
